Reflecting on the Past Year and Setting Goals for 2025
As the year winds down, I find myself in one of my favorite routines: reviewing the year gone by and setting intentions for the future. This time is not just about creating new goals but reflecting on what worked, what didn’t, and how to move forward. Here’s how I approach this process, based on my weekly project goals and year-end review notes.
Looking Back on 2024
Before diving into new goals, I take time to reflect on 2024. This involves revisiting journals, notes, and any data I’ve collected throughout the year. By looking at numbers, events, and patterns, I get a clear picture of what was accomplished and what needs adjustment.
Key questions I ask myself include:
- What goals did I meet?
- Which goals fell short, and why?
- How can I improve my approach moving forward?
- Have any of my priorities or goals changed over the year?
Tracking throughout the year makes this process easier, and I’m reminded of the importance of maintaining good notes and consistent updates.
Preparing for 2025
After reflecting on 2024, I begin mapping out 2025. I set aside the first Monday in January to write out my priorities and specific goals for the year. This step helps me enter the new year with a sense of clarity and purpose. Then I set monthly goals on the first Monday of each month, and weekly goals on Monday’s and my daily goals are a set three based on the day. My approach is intentional and grounded in the lessons of the past 10 years.
Weekly Project Goals
In addition to reviewing 2024 and preparing for 2025, I’ve outlined weekly project goals that keep me aligned and focused. Here’s my list for the upcoming week:
- Painting: Create video tutorials and dedicate time to painting for personal satisfaction.
- Crafting: Work on projects like a blanket and a looming scarf. I also plan to design trackers for 2025, both monthly and daily.
- Gardening: Finish collecting and organizing seeds for the new season.
- Photography: Sort and organize photographs to preserve memories and find creative inspiration.
- Website Work: Dedicate time to updating and improving my website.
Why This Process Matters
Taking time to reflect and set goals grounds me, provides direction, and ensures that I am growing both personally and professionally. By looking back and planning ahead, I create a sense of continuity and purpose in my work and personal life and I see growth in areas that really matter.
For anyone looking to start their own goal-setting process, I recommend carving out time for reflection, gathering your thoughts and notes, and being honest about what matters most to you. Tracking progress throughout the year is invaluable—it makes reflection easier and ensures you stay on course.
Here’s to a productive and fulfilling 2025!
